CREATE Public Hearing on December 4

On December 4 a public hearing will be held for the P-1 project at 63rd and State Streets in Chicago.
Date: December 4, 2007
Time: 7p.m. – 9p.m.
Location: Antioch Baptist Church, 415 W. Englewood Ave. Chicago, IL

The project proposes to build a new bridge to elevate the Metra tracks over Norfolk Southern tracks near 63rd Street. This would reduce the idling of the NS trains and improve reliability and capacity, resulting in improved air quality and safety for the surrounding community. In June, the first public meeting was held. More detail is available on CREATE News and Events.

CREATE Statement on CN Proposed Acquisition of EJ&E

The goal and objective of CREATE is to address existing rail congestion in the Chicago region and the long-term growth of rail traffic in the region and nation. CN’s proposed acquisition of the EJ&E by itself will not resolve the overall region’s current rail congestion issues or provide relief for future rail freight and passenger traffic growth in the region. CN remains a CREATE partner and recognizes that CREATE’s completion is important for the region’s and the nation’s surface transportation system to deal with the challenges of freight and passenger growth. The CN’s EJ&E acquisition could result in some changes to the CREATE program.

The CN’s proposed Operating Plan has been filed with the Surface Transportation Board (STB), as part of their overall application. The CREATE Partners are currently reviewing it and will advise of further actions to be taken.

CREATE Kicks Off Human Resources Initiative

CREATE held an Employment Summit with all the railroads over the summer and is now posting railroad job announcements for Chicago on its website. Check back often for employment opportunities within the rail industry. CREATE Employment

“Doing Business with CREATE” On Website

CREATE has launched the “Doing Business with CREATE” section of its website. The site lists the types of construction work that CREATE partner railroads expect to contract out and information on the railroads’ procurement processes. Doing Business with CREATE
