CREATE Project GS1 Public Outreach Opportunity

The Illinois Department of Transportation (Department) cordially invites you to participate in the final public outreach of the preliminary engineering and environmental study (Phase I) for the improvement of IL 43 (Harlem Avenue) from 63rd Street to 65th Street in the City of Chicago, Villages of Summit and Bedford Park, Cook County. 

Instead of hosting a regular public meeting, the Department is currently sharing details on the project and encourages public participation by August 25, 2021, through the interactive project website at www.il43study.org.

There will also be a Virtual Public Forum on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, from 5 pm – 7 pm. You can register for that here.

CREATE Project GS1 Public Meeting – Virtual through August 15, 2020

Comments were accepted through August 15, 2020 on proposed improvements to Illinois 43 (Harlem Avenue) between 63rd Street and 65th Street (CREATE Project GS1), including possibly grade separating the roadway and railroad at two adjacent grade crossings affecting the City of Chicago and the Villages of Bedford Park and Summit.

In place of an in-person meeting, the project website was available at www.il43study.org to watch a video, explore exhibits on a range of proposed alternatives and leave comments.

CREATE Project GS11 Public Hearing – November 14, 2019

A public hearing for the Columbus Avenue & Belt Railway Company Grade Separation (GS11) was held on Thursday, November 14, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at:

Project B4B5 Public Meeting Notice – March 22, 2009

 

Project B4B5, located along the Indiana Harbor Belt rail line, is just less than 8 miles long from North Avenue south to the extension of Plainfield Road. Project B4B5 includes improved signaling through the project area, upgrading a side track to a main track, and adding crossovers and connections to reduce delays.  The goal of the proposed improvements is to improve operating speeds, minimize congestion and reduce delays.  The proposed signal and track improvements will occur within railroad right-of-way.  The communities alongside and/or crossing this project area include McCook, LaGrange, LaGrange Park, Broadview, Bellwood, and Melrose Park.  Westchester is just west of the project and Maywood is east of the project.

Public Meeting on Project P1 – January 18, 2008

 

CREATE project P-1 near 63rd and State Streets, which is proposed to expand the railroad system capacity, improve railroad operations, reduce train delays and congestion, thereby improving air quality, and increase safety. The proposed plan does not require permanent property acquisition or relocation of businesses. Temporary construction access easements may be required during construction. Two viaducts (60th and 66th streets) are recommended for closure. Drainage improvements for the 61st Street viaduct will be included.
